Improving drinking water and sanitation services in Kinshasa

(In French Only) Kinshasa est une ville qui connaît un taux de croissance démographique élevé (5 %) dont la population estimée à près de 10 millions d’habitants en 2014, est estimée entre 14 et 17 millions en 2030. Bien que la ville soit construite au bord du fleuve Congo, l’approvisionnement en eau potable (AEP) se fait à partir de plusieurs petites rivières et des eaux souterraines dans quelques quartiers périphériques. Le système de distribution est principalement assuré par la REGIDESO avec un taux global de desserte en eau potable de 64 %.

Support for the creation of Volta Basin Authority

March 2006 - The Volta Basin Technical Committee (VBTC) received a €165,000 grant through an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Hydraulics and Fisheries in Burkina Faso - for the creation of the Volta Basin Authority. This is the first project ever to be funded by the AWF. It is aimed at establishing an agreement for the creation of the Volta Basin Authority to ensure joint rational and judicious use of the water resources amongst riparian countries, foster transboundary cooperation and benefit sharing.

Strengthening the information and knowledge capacity of CICOS for the water resources management of the Congo Basin

May 2007 - The International Commission for the Congo-Ubangi-Sangha Basin (CICOS) received a € 455,000 grant to reinforce its capacity to collect and manage hydrologic data and information as well as well to enhance Congo Basin water resources knowledge.
