April 2009 – ECOLINK, a local South African NGO, received a € 374,000 grant to implement a project designed to assist communities in the Ehlanzeni District of Mpumalanga Province of South Africa to improve output from their communal food gardens through improved collection and management of surface run-off from precipitation and better management of soil moisture.

August 2014 - the Water Research Commission of the Republic of South Africa has received a €1.3 million grant to improve water delivery services for rural and peri-urban communities.

The rationale for this project is the need to dramatically improve the usability of existing school sanitation facilities through franchised operation and maintenance services and safe handling of faecal sludge for non-sewered urban and peri-urban areas of East London District. This is aimed to facilitate better learning and improve environmental sanitation.
