(French Only) This 2010 case study discusses the results achieved  through the GEOAQUIFER project undertaken by the  Observatoire du Sahara et du Sahel (OSS) which consisted in assessing the water quantity and geographic coverage of aquifers located in the Northern Sahara region using satellite technology.

AWF Holds Talk on Hydro-Diplomacy at Stockholm Water Week

Cooperation and hydro-diplomacy in Africa will be at the top of AWF agenda during the 2013 edition of the Stockholm World Water Week
As part of the Africa Focus Day programme, the AWF will be bringing together a group of international water experts specialising in the management of water resources for a discussion on possible solutions for more effective pragmatic sharing of transboundary water resources on the African continent.

International monitoring and evaluation workshop held in Malawi to boost water sector performance

The African Water Facility (AWF), jointly with the Government of Malawi, organized a two-day international workshop on monitoring and information management with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB).  Held in Lilongwe from 30th September to 1st October 2013, the event aimed at fostering peer learning among specialists and providing participants with tools and knowledge to better keep track of results achieved in the African water and sanitation sector.

Promoting private sanitation venture to curb water-borne diseases and turn waste into energy and fertilizer in Kisumu, Kenya

The Kisumu Water and Sewage Company (KIWASCO) received a €1.2 million AWF grant to support a project that will provide sanitation services for residents in the Manyatta settlement in Kisumu, Kenya, while creating business through the sale of fertilizers, biogas and energy as by-product of the sanitation collection.

Integrated urban water management, a global and sustainable approach to the water cycle

Flashback on the workshop on innovative approaches for water management in urban areas, the integrated urban water management (IUWM), which recently gathered water experts from around the world in Abidjan. This global approach to the water cycle sees used water – domestic and industrial – and fecal sludge as resources to be exploited.
